It’s been a mammoth year for the RKS crew, pulling together a heavyweight collection of top quality releases and representing the sounds of UK funky with a real level of majesty, being one the longest running and arguably biggest imprint to ever grace the sound. To celebrate another successful year, the great and the good have been gathered along with some of their finest catalogue additions from over the years, giving us a seriously hard hitting release compilation to close out the year with.
Featuring a vast collection of some of UK funky’s finest, we see 18 absolute whizzbangs land on the project, with the artistry ranging from old school heavyweight to new school mastery from start to finish. We see household names return to the label, such as Jook 10, Toddska, KTM, SPD, DJ Polo, B Skippy, Ronnie LokoMA1 and more, with a very notable return for the living legend that is Hard House Banton.
After nearly 13 years, his original funky classic ‘Reign’ is finally back on the shelves with a brand new 2022 master. We also see a couple of very spicy originals, with DJ Naughty supplying us with the belter that is ‘Phase II’ alongside the high energy flavours Tickles’ ‘RuRu’. The whole project is dripping with originality, with founder and legend himself Roska also delivering three sizzlers in ‘I Know’, ‘Call Mi’ alongside なかむらみなみ, Sweetie Irie, Serocee & Flowdan, and of course ‘Static’ featuring Tasty Lopez. As far as compilations go, this is without a doubt the strongest salute to the prominence of UK funky in 2022, jam-packed with stunners old and new from start to finish.

The future is looking very bright for RKS indeed, with 2023 releases already confirmed to be forthcoming from Murder He Wrote, KTM, SPD & Roska himself as the label approaches 150 releases!

All the tracks are great but Stepper is the standout for me! pounding syncopated kicks, rolling handdrums and playful sample work, dancefloor destroyer. Jack G.
